Hekate
Keeper of the Keys GreekTorchbearer at the crossroads. She holds the keys to every threshold between the living and the dead.
Goddesses of death, darkness, and the underworld. Nine portraits. Four continents. Five thousand years.
“They ruled the places the living feared to go.”
Sisters of Shadow is the debut volume of the Living Goddess Series. It is a nonfiction mythology study profiling nine goddesses of death, darkness, and the underworld across world traditions, written for a dual audience: academic readers and spiritual practitioners.
The writing is scholarly in research, contemporary in voice. Rigorous footnotes with a feminist frame. Each chapter is a portrait drawn from primary sources, sacred texts, and living traditions. This is their book and it has been a long time coming.
The feminist analytical frame is not incidental. It is the spine of the book.
Each entry in the volume stands alone. Each goddess in her own light, drawn from the traditions that made her.
Torchbearer at the crossroads. She holds the keys to every threshold between the living and the dead.
Queen of two worlds. She descends willingly now, carrying spring into a kingdom that had never known it.
Sovereign of the seven-gated land. The dead enter her kingdom stripped of everything. She takes nothing she was not owed.
Mother of the islands of Japan. She died giving birth to fire and took dominion over death as her inheritance.
Half living, half corpse. She rules those who died without glory, and her domain is quieter than Valhalla and far older.
She left the garden on her own terms. The traditions that followed tried to make her a demon. She became a symbol instead.
Devourer of time, garlanded in skulls. Her destruction is not cruelty. It is the condition of all new creation.
Born from the African diaspora, she guards the first grave in every cemetery. She drinks rum, tells the truth, and takes no disrespect.
The fastest growing spiritual movement in the Americas. She does not judge. She accepts everyone who comes to her, without exception.
II
Forthcoming
The second volume turns to the great mothers of world mythology. Creation goddesses, birth deities, and the cosmic forces of nurture across traditions that have honored them since the beginning of recorded history.
The women of the sky have been underestimated. Volume III profiles the solar and celestial goddesses whose dominion over the heavens preceded many of the male sky gods who replaced them.
Not violence for its own sake. The warrior goddesses of world mythology carry justice, strategy, and the moral weight of the battlefield. This volume is their record.
One letter when the volume ships. Nothing else.
